Brazilian Zouk classes
Kenneth and Gørill from Tromsø Salsaklubb dance Zouk by the waterside in Tromsø
Zouk description |
Brazilian Zouk (sometimes referred to as Rio Zouk) is a sensual partner dance with origins in the Lambada (aka "the Forbidden Dance") and danced to the "Zouk" music made popular in the French Caribbean. The dance has developed significantly over time, taking influences from classical dance, street dance and other partnered styles (Forro, Samba, Salsa, etc.). At Tromsø Salsaklubb, we teach the traditional zouk at the introductory level, which has its origins in Rio de Janeiro, as opposed to the more modern-dance style of Zouk seen in some other places.
The slow, sensual flowing Brazilian Zouk has a “slow-quick-quick-slow-quick-quick” rhythm, with a long "slow" step. The music that we dance to can include pop, hip hop, and R&B songs that have similar rhythmic structures to Zouk music and/or a danceable lyrical component. Music that is appropriate for Zouk is also appropriate for Kizomba. |
